Swift Service on Top Network Accelerates Internet Access Nationwide

Cambodia’s Number One mobile network opened the door to the future with a demonstration of the far-reaching benefits of its 4G LTE service on Thursday, offering the hundreds of people who attended the ceremony a glimpse of MetFone’s most advanced service.

Mobile access to the Internet is now 15 times swifter, service is customized and personal, and visits to virtual reality are becoming an option for all.

Metfone executives stressed that they are determined to ensure that the more than 10 million Cambodians who already use the country’s most reliable and extensive network have the swiftest access to the Internet possible – at the same cost as 3G.

They were joined by Minister of Posts and Telecommunications H. E. Tram Iv Tek and Minister of Information H. E. Khieu Kanharith for a lively presentation about the new direction Cambodia’s telecom sector is taking.

“It’s all about speed. We are fast everywhere,” said MetFone Vice General Director Nhong Dinthan. “We have the most extensive coverage available and it is stable without drops.”

With 4G LTE games can be downloaded 25 faster than on 3G. Music can be streamed 2-6 times faster, HD video can be streamed 10 times faster and photos can be uploaded 6 times faster. This saves money as well as time. An online movie, for example, can be downloaded for $1, or 10 percent of the price of a movie ticket.

Those attending the launch were provided with an opportunity to try the service for themselves. They agreed MetFone’s 4G LTE is far swifter than any service they have tried before.

Sorng Nim, vice director of MetFone’s technical center, said the fastest network in Cambodia was supported by the most advanced technology available.

MetFone is the sole mobile operator in Cambodia using Metro Ethernet Full-MPLS in all 25 provinces. This technology provides bandwidth of 1 gigabyte per second, while the use of DWDM (Dense Wave Length Division Multiplexing) technology allows data to be transferred at 400 GB/second.

“Simply put, we have the most technologically advanced network in Cambodia,” Mr. Sorng Nim said.

MetFone customers who have signed up since early this year are automatically upgraded to 4G LTE, while new customers can get their 4G SIM cards (including 1 gigabyte) for free at MetFone’s 122 shops and more than 200 agents nationwide until the end of July. Customers can chose from a range of daily and monthly packages with rates based on data volume.
